Oregon St. opens their first Pac-12 home series of the season against Arizona St. tonight at 5:35.
The Beavers come in fresh off a sweep of Defending National Champion Arizona in Tucson. Michael Conforto homered in 2 of the wins, and hit .477 last week, and Jake Rodriguez had 7 RBIs in the last 2 Beaver wins at Hi Corbett Field.
The Sun Devils are struggling a bit of late, having lost 2 in a row, and 3 of their last 4. Washington St. took the first and last games of last weekend's Pac-12 campaign opening series, and then Arizona St. made a quick, mid-week trip to Lubbock, TX , and took another loss.
The problem has been the Sun Devils' difficulty to slow down the opposition's offenses. When they did, they defeated Washington St. 4-1 last Saturday. But in the Cougars' 2 wins, the scores were 15-4 and 11-8. The Red Raiders won 8-7 (on a walk-off walk). That's asking for a lot of offense, when you give up that many runs.
Oregon St. will send senior LHP Matt Boyd (4-0, 1.59) out first. Boyd earned his second Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honor this past week, after 2 hitting Arizona over 7 innings last Friday night.
Arizona St. will counter with junior RHP Trevor Williams (3-1, 1.95). Williams took his first loss of the year in last Friday night's 15-4 loss to the Cougs, after allowing 13 hits and 9 runs, 7 of them earned, in 7 innings.
It's [yet] another huge series for the Beavers, who will be on the road for 3 of the next 4 weekends.
