Oregon St. hosts Stanford for a weekend series starting Friday night, and its the biggest series in a while for both teams. Its the next to last home series for the Beavers, who will be on the road for the next couple of weekends. Saturday's game at 1 PM will be televised by ROOT Sports NW, which is a good thing for fans who don't have a ticket yet, as Saturday is a sell-out.

Stanford comes in in 4th place in the tight Pac-12 race, 2 1/2 games behind conference leading Oregon, and 1 game ahead of 6th place Oregon St., with Arizona St. sandwiched in between the Cardinal and the Beavers.

Last week, Stanford took 2 of 3 at UCLA, while Oregon St. dropped the last 2 of 3 at USC.

The Cardinal then lost 8-5 Tuesday night at San Jose St., due to the Spartans getting 3 runs in the first inning, and then a 4 run 4th inning to break open a tied game.

It's a classic Friday night pitching matchup, as Stanford sends Junior RHP Mark Appel (6-1, 2.73 ERA) to the mound, and Oregon St. counters with Sophomore LHP Ben Wetzler (5-2, 3.18 ERA).

Appel worked the first 7 innings of Stanford's 7-2 win over UCLA last Friday night, leaving with a 7-1 lead after scattering 8 hits, but with 10 strikeouts and no walks, which got him the win.

Wetzler worked well into the 7th inning, getting the first 2 outs of the inning, before handing the ball and a 3-2 lead over to Scott Schultz last Friday night against USC. The Beavers went on to get the 5-3 win over the Trojans. Wetzler struck out 7 against 7 hits and no walks, and picked up the win.

Go Beavers!
