Oregon St. stops off on their way home from Tempe, AZ, for a 2 game series against Nevada of the Western Athletic Conference.
The Beavers will be looking to bounce back after getting swept by Arizona St., dropping them into a tie with the Sun Devils for 4th. place in the Pac-12, 3 games behind Arizona, and 2 behind Oregon and UCLA, who are tied for second 1 game back of the Wildcats.
Oregon St. got an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 4th inning against Arizona St. Saturday afternoon, when Dylan Dunn doubled, and Jake Rodriguez singled to drive him in. And the Beavers got a good pitching performance from freshman Jace Fry, who carried the 1-0 lead into the 8th. inning.
But then the wheels came off, and 3 singles plus a fielding error allowed Arizona St. to tie the game, and prompt Oregon St. to replace Fry with Cole Brocker. Brocker got an out, but then lost the lead on another RBI single. The game then got away, when Max Rossiter ripped a 3 run homer to left field.
It was all the offense Arizona St. needed, and the Sun Devils' reliever Jake Barrett closed out the 5-0 win.
Nevada will also be looking for a bounce back effort. The Lobos took their WAC season opener Thursday in Las Cruces, beating New Mexico St. 10-5. But the Aggies, who are now 25-9, came back with 13-6 and 7-6 wins over the Wolf Pack. 2 errors that led to 3 unearned runs in the bottom of the 9th inning cost Nevada the series deciding game Saturday.
Nevada plans to go with RHP Tyler Marks (0-2, 9.00 ERA), while Oregon St. coach Pat Casey plans on another last minute decision on who to start.
Go Beavers!
