Oregon and Oregon St. meet in the first of this season's battles in the baseball Civil War this evening at PK Park in Eugene. It's the first of 2 non-conference confrontations in the rivalry. It's also the first time the Beavers can "respond" to having been swept in last year's regular season ending series, where any win would have won them the Pac-10 Championship.

With the Beavers headed to LA for a vital Pac-12 series at USC this weekend, and the Ducks hosting resurgent California, neither Oregon St. coach Pat Casey nor Oregon skipper George Horton will settle on a starter, much less settle on a pitching rotation plan from their bull pens until the game unfolds. However, senior RHP Taylor Starr (3-1, 4.32 ERA) is the probable starter for Oregon St., and Oregon's probable starter is freshman LHP Jordan Spencer (2-1, 3.68 ERA), who threw the no-hitter against Portland last week.

The Ducks had been really flying high, reeling off 12 wins in 14 games before dropping consecutive games at home against Washington St. Saturday and Sunday, when the Cougars got to what had been tremendous pitching by Oregon. The Duck had allowed more than 3 runs only once in that 14 game stretch, but the Cougars pounded them for 8-3 and 10-6 wins that knocked Oregon a game down out of first place in the Pac-12.

The Beavers have bounced back from being swept at Arizona St. right before Easter to win 8 of their last 9, including both games last weekend over #12 UCLA, which kept the Bruins a game out of first place in the Pac-12 as well, tied with Oregon.

Go Beavers!
