Oregon St. concludes their 2 game series with Nevada today.
Monday, the Beavers pulled out a 6-5 win over the Wolf Pack.
Nevada used a pair of singles, a sacrifice, and a double to get to Oregon St. starter Taylor Starr for a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Tyler Smith, the Pac-12's leading hitter, put the Beavers ahead 3-2 in the third inning, with a 3 run homer to left, his first round tripper of the season.
Oregon St. extended their lead with another 3 runs in the 7th inning, on a pinch hit RBI sacrifice fly by Kavin Keyes that scored Ryan Gorton, plus a run by Jake Rodriguez on a throwing error, the only one of the game, followed by an RBI single by Michael Conforto.
The Beavers would need all of it, as the Wolf Pack rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th. The first 2 came on a full-count triple down the line by Garrett Yrigoyen, after Beaver reliever Matt Boyd had seemingly struck him out, and then another RBI single.
But Tony Bryant shut down Nevada the rest of the way, getting 2 outs to get out of the 8th inning, and setting the Wolf Pack down in order in the 9th.
Starr, making his first career start, worked 4 innings, and picked up the win, improving him to 2-1 for the season, before handing the ball over to Zach Reser. Reser went 1 2/3 innings, allowing only 1 hit, before Ryan Gorton took over for parts of 2 innings.
Boyd got the last 2 outs in the 7th, before running into trouble in the 8th, and Bryant got the save.
Starter Troy Marks, the first of 6 Nevada pitchers, worked 5 innings, and took the loss for the Wolfpack, dropping his record to 0-3.
Starters for today are expected to be game time decisions.
Go Beavers!
