The Beaver baseball team plays its home opener tonight against West Virginia, which means that the Beaver fans can cheer on their team from the stadium, and also watch the game online for the first time through Beaver Nation Online.
The Beaver starter will be sophomore lefty Ben Wetzler (2-0, 6.75), meanwhile West Virginia will have the all too familiar TBA starting on the mound.
The Mountaineers are 6-6 on the season, and 3-3 in their last 6 games. Last year, they finished 7th in the 12 team Big East, ending with a 28-27 (14-13 in conference) record.
The Beavers kicked off last weekend with a loss to Saint Mary's, but won the next three against Winthop, Saint Louis, and Northern Illinois. Wetzler started the lone loss of the weekend, and went 5.2 innings while giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits, walking 2 while striking out 4, earning himself a no decision. For the most part, the Beavers offense last weekend was supplied by Dylan Davis, Tyler Smith, and Michael Conforto. John Tommasini has been a very consistent hitter at the bottom of the lineup, and he's the lone Oregon State player to have started every game this season.
Looking ahead, the Beavers play a doubleheader Saturday against Illinois (3:00 PM), and the UCONN Huskies at 7:00 PM. Oregon State closes out the weekend on Sunday at 11:00 AM versus the Oklahoma Sooners.
Go Beavers!
