Despite going 2-2 since the last polls, and losing three of four games last calendar week, Oregon St. crept further upward in the BaseballAmerica.com poll, moving from #3 to #2. The Beavers bounced back, and Sunday's win gave them the series win over California, which was Oregon St.'s sixth Pac-10 Conference series win of the season. As a result, the Beavers moved past South Carolina, who lost 2 of 3 games to un-ranked Mississippi. Only Virginia, who only played (and won) one game last week, due to finals, remains ahead of them.
Arizona St. also moved up from seventh to sixth, after the Sun Devils swept a non-conference series from Long Beach St., while Florida lost 2 of 3 games at Arkansas.
UCLA climbed back into the BaseballAmerica top 25 after the Bruins swept their series at Oregon.Oregon St. also moved up in the Baseballnews poll, edging up from #4 to #3, while ASU & UCLA maintained their position, at #7 & #13, while California slipped from #24 to #25.
The Beavers didn't slip in the USA Today/Coaches' Poll, but now share 7th., where they were ranked last week, with Arizona St. The Sun Devils garnered enough additional votes to catch the Beavers, moving up from #8. UCLA moved from #22 up to #19 in the Coaches' poll, while Stanford, who swept Washington, Oregon St.'s opponent this weekend in Seattle, replaced California at #25.
The Beavers' Brian Stamps was nominated for Pac-10 Player of the Week, and Ben Wetzler for Pitcher of the Week in the Conference. Stanford freshman first baseman Brian Ragira and UCLA's freshman right-handed pitcher Adam Plutko ultimately received this week's conference honors.
