USC (20-28, 10-11) @ #4 Oregon State (37-12, 16-5) - 5:35 PM (PDT) - Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, Corvallis, OR - 1240 KEJO/1550 KKOV/1550kkad.com - Live Video on BNO, for a fee
Oregon State and USC meet at 5:35 PM west coast time tonight to begin the three game series between the Beavers and Trojans. After tonight's game, the two teams will meet again at 2:05 PM tomorrow.
Oregon State comes into tonight's game with a record of 37-12, 16-5 in the Pac-10. The Beavers have good wins against Connecticut, Arizona State (3), Stanford (3), UCLA (2), and California (2). Oregon State has other solid victories against Gonzaga (2), Oregon, Long Beach State (2), and Arizona (2).
The Beavers are currently on a one game losing streak after falling to Washington on Saturday. In that game, the Beavers built up a 6-0 lead after the first three innings of play. The good start would prove to be not enough though, as the Huskies battled back and eventually won the game on a walk-off walk in the 9th inning. The final score was 7-6.
Despite the loss, the Beavers still won the series after a 6-4 victory on Friday night and a 9-3 win earlier on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans come into the game with a record of 20-28, 10-11 in the Pac-10. The Trojans are currently on a one game losing streak after falling to UC Irvine on Tuesday.
USC is by far out of contention for an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, but it is still mathematically possible for the Trojans to win the Pac-10 and take the conference's automatic bid into the tournament. For that to happen, USC would need to win their final six Pac-10 games.
On Tuesday in Irvine, California, the Trojans were blown out by the Anteaters, 9-2. After this weekend's series with the Beavers, the Trojans will return to action on Tuesday when they host the Pepperdine Waves.
The Beavers starter for tonight's game is TBA, but the Trojans will send out Andrew Triggs (4-3, 3.68). In Oregon State's last Friday game, Josh Osich (6-2, 3.46) took the mound for the Beavers. Sam Gaviglio (10-1, 1.74 ERA), is the other possibility, and whichever pitcher between Osich and Gaviglio does not start will start Saturday.
In Triggs's last start, Andrew went 9 innings, giving up 1 run (Un-earned) on 7 hits.
We'll have coverage from the game afterwords. If you can't make it to the game, listen in or watch the stream, and share your analysis here.
Go Beavers!
