The three members of the Oregon St. football team that doubled as the Beavers' men's track and field team found the competition stiff at the Pac-10 Championship meet in Tucson, AZ, this past weekend.
Keynan Parker and Marcus Wheaton placed 20th. & 26th. respectively in the 100 meter dash, with times of 10.72 and 11.70.
Obum Gwachum competed in two events, finishing in a tie for 11th. place in the High Jump, after clearing 6'9", and claiming 10th. in the triple jump, with a distance of 48' 7 1/4".
None of the placings or marks qualified for the NCAA Regionals.
The womens' team fared better, and better than ever in the modern era.
Junior Laura Carlyle finished second in the 1,500-meter finals, and red shirt senior Hayley Oveson finished fifth in the 5,000-meter finals Saturday.The duo combined for 12 points for the championship, the highest point total by Oregon State University at the competition since the track program was reinstated in 2004.
Carlyle has already qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the 1,500 and the 5,000, and Oveson has qualified in the 5,000 as well.
Senior Jennifer Macias and sophomore Olivia Poblacion have to wait for Thursday's announcement of at large berths to learn if they will be competing as well.
The NCAA West Preliminary Rounds will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene at the University of Oregon from May 26-28.
