Baseball Open Thread: OSU @ Portland

Oregon State (20-7) @ Portland (10-14) - 3:00 PM (PDT) - Joe Etzel Field, Portland, OR - 1240 KEJO/1550 KKOV/ 1550kkad.com

Oregon State and Portland meet at 3:00 PM west coast time today for a quick midweek battle. After today's game, the Beavers will begin to prepare for a three game series this weekend against Arizona State.

Oregon State comes into today's game with an overall record of 20-7. The Beavers have good wins against Connecticut, Oregon, Long Beach State (2), and Arizona (2). Their bad losses have came against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Seattle University, and UC Santa Barbara. The Beavers are currently on a two game winning streak after defeating Arizona twice over the weekend. Oregon State is currently ranked 18th in the nation.

The Pilots come into the game with an overall record of 10-14. Their good wins have came against Oregon and Hawaii (2). Last weekend, Portland traveled half-way across the country to Omaha, Nebraska, only to be swept in three games by the Creighton Blue Jays. The Pilots have a 1-1 record against Pac-10 opponents so far this season. After today's game with the Beavers, Portland is off until Friday, when they will begin a three game series with the Pepperdine Waves.

Both starters for today's game are still TBA. In Oregon State's last Tuesday game, James Nygren (3-1, 3.60) got the start for Oregon State. In Portland's last Tuesday game, Chris Johnson (1-1, 4.01) got the nod for the Pilots.

Last year, Portland went 34-18. The Pilots went 0-3 against the Beavers in 2010.

The weather is is expected to be nasty for the duration of the game. The Weather Channel calls for 50° and showers at 3:00 PM, with showers continuing and the temperature dropping to 49° near the end of the game. However, the weather for this weekend's series against Arizona State in Corvallis looks to be great. Friday calls for 55° and mostly sunny, Saturday calls for 57° and partly cloudy, and Sunday calls for 56° and mostly cloudy.

I will be braving out the conditions today on the Bluff, and will be back either late tonight or tomorrow with a recap and (hopefully) pictures.

Go Beavers!
