Baseball Open Thread: OSU @ Arizona (Game 2)

Oregon State (18-7, 0-1) @ Arizona (20-7, 2-2) - 1:00 PM (PDT) - Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium, Tucson, AZ - 1240 KEJO/860 KPAM/ kpam.com

Oregon State and Arizona meet at 1:00 PM west coast time today to continue the three game series between the Beavers and Wildcats. After today's game, the Beavers and Wildcats will finish the series at 12:00 PM tomorrow.

Oregon State comes into today's game with an record of 18-7, 0-1 in the Pac-10. The Beavers have good wins against Connecticut, Oregon, and Long Beach State (2). Their bad losses have came against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Seattle University, and UC Santa Barbara. The Beavers are currently on a two game losing streak after falling to the Gauchos on Sunday and the Wildcats last night, one of the worst losses, margin wise, in the history of the program, 18-0. A 12 run sixth inning, in which the Wildcats batted around twice, did much of the damage. And no, it was not an April Fools' joke. Oregon State is currently ranked 19th in the nation.

The Wildcats come into the game with a record of 20-7, 2-2 in Pac-10 play. Their good wins have came against Long Beach State (2), Rice, Arizona State, and Oregon State. Last weekend, Arizona dropped a series to rival Arizona State in Tempe. Arizona is currently ranked 18th in the nation. After the series with the Beavers, the Wildcats are off until Tuesday, when they will again face the rival Sun Devils.

Oregon State's starter for today's game is Josh Osich (3-0, 2.74), and Arizona will send out Kyle Simon (5-1, 2.25). In Simon's last start, he went 6.1 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits against the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Last year, Arizona went 34-24. The Wildcats went 1-2 against the Beavers in 2010.

The weather is is expected to be great for the duration of the game. The Weather Channel calls for 90° and mostly sunny at 1:00 PM, with the temperature rising to 91° near the end of the game. The hot weather is expected to continue throughout the weekend.

After today's game, the Beavers and Wildcats will conclude their series tomorrow at 12:00 PM Pacific. The Beavers will then travel back up to Portland and face the Pilots on Tuesday afternoon.

Go Beavers!
