A 2-8 week, with only one correct series pick! It doesn't get much worse than that! However, the Beavers did pull off the sweep of the 5th ranked Sun Devils, so I can't complain.
Now we enter a new week, with two great series featuring Oregon State @ Stanford and Arizona @ UCLA.
In case you missed our first posts, I'll be predicting every Thursday-Monday Pac-10 game throughout the season, and I'll keep the records of everyone who joins in at the comments section.
So, here's my Week 9 picks.
Washington (Friday-Sunday, California)
Prediction : 1-2
The Huskies should actually come into this series with some confidence after winning three of their last four games, including two wins against rival Oregon. Unfortunately, I think the Golden Bears are just too talented to drop a series to Washington.
Washington State (Friday-Sunday, @ Arizona State)
Prediction : 0-3
The Cougars have been beyond disappointing this season, and I think they are walking into a hornet's nest this weekend in Tempe. The Sun Devils are going to be looking for blood after geting swept at Oregon State over the weekend, and I fully expect them to turn around this weekend and sweep the Cougs.
Oregon (Friday-Sunday, @ USC, Monday, San Francisco)
Prediction : 2-2
The Ducks got a big midweek victory against Portland on Wednesday to keep them on the NCAA Bubble, and they will need a 2-2 or above record this weekend to stay in contention. I think the Trojans take the series in Los Angeles, but Oregon should be able to defeat a mediocre USF club on Monday.
Oregon State (Friday-Sunday, @ Stanford)
Prediction: 2-1
The red-hot Beavers make their next stop in Stanford this weekend, where I think they should actually have no problems getting a series win. The question in my mind though is whether the Beavers will sweep the Cardinal. I'll give the nod to Stanford though because of the pitching matchup on Sunday.
California (Friday-Sunday, @ Washington)
Prediction: 2-1
Like I said above, I tihnk the Golden Bears are just too talented not to get out of Seattle with a series victory.
More predictions after the break
Stanford (Friday-Sunday, Oregon State)
Prediction: 1-2
Like I said above, I like the pitching matchup for Stanford in the Sunday game, but I think Oregon State handles the Cardinal easily in the first two games.
USC (Friday-Sunday, Oregon)
Prediction: 2-1
I've been on the Trojan bandwagon for a while now, and they finally came through for me with a series victory against Stanford last weekend. I think their winning ways continue this weekend against a struggling Oregon team.
UCLA (Friday-Sunday, Arizona)
Prediction: 2-1
I can't wait for this one as it will have huge implications for the Pac-10 title race. I love UCLA in Game One with Gerrit Cole on the mound, but the Wildcats should take the second game of the series. The Sunday rubber match can go either way, but I'm going with UCLA due to it being in Los Angeles.
Arizona (Friday-Sunday, @ UCLA)
Prediction: 1-2
Read Above!
Arizona State (Friday-Sunday, Washington State)
Prediction: 3-0
Like I said earlier, I think Washington State is walking into a hornet's nest this weekend in Arizona. The Sun Devils, despite being swept last weekend at Oregon State, are still very much in the conversation for a National Seed and they will be playing for a purpose this weekend against the slumping Cougars.
Record (Either a win, loss, or tie, based on correctly predicting that team's record for the weekend): 32-37-9, Goal: 95-45-9
