I did a little better than last week, picking four records correctly. I had six incorrect predictions, with Washington, Washington State, and Oregon being the main killers.
In case you missed our first posts, I'll be predicting every Thursday-Monday Pac-10 game throughout the season, and I'll keep the records of everyone who joins in at the comments section.
So, here's my Week 4 picks.
Washington (Thursday-Saturday, Dallas Baptist)
Prediction : 1-2
The Patriots already have victories against Oklahoma State, TCU, and Washington State to their credit, and they have been a major surprise around the nation this season. The Huskies on the other hand are spiraling downward with a 2-8 record. I think Washington looks past Dallas Baptist and loses yet another series.
Washington State (Friday-Sunday, Utah Valley)
Prediction : 3-0
The Cougars stock is low after going 1-2 at the Dairy Queen Classic and a mid-week loss against Dallas Baptist, but they should sweep the Wolverines.
Oregon (Thursday-Saturday, BYU)
Prediction : 1-2
It might be unfair to the Ducks to pick another series loss, but these are two teams going in different directions. The Cougars have won seven of their last eight, including two wins over Washington and Portland and a win against Texas Tech. Oregon has lost four of their last five and they can't get anything going at the plate. This series can go either way, but BYU is hot right now.
Oregon State (Friday, New Mexico State, Saturday, VMI, Sunday, VMI and New Mexico State)
The Beavers finish their nine game homestand with the Oregon State tournament against New Mexico State and VMI. The Aggies come into Corvallis with an 11-2 record, but their schedule has been super soft. VMI is 7-6 on the year (With a tough schedule) and has beaten James Madison.
I think the Beavers should easily get by the Aggies, but VMI will be tricky. I still like the Beavers to sweep due to all their depth on the mound, but expect these games to be much closer than the Hartford series.
California (Friday, vs Louisiana-Lafayette, Saturday, vs Rice, Sunday, vs Long Beach State)
I couldn't have liked the Bears more before last week, but their 1-3 record in the USD Tournament changed my mind. California should defeat th Rajun Cajuns easily on Friday, but Rice and Long Beach State are hot as of late and I think both of them defeat Cal.
More predictions after the break
USC (Friday, St. Mary's, Saturday, Georgia, Sunday, vs UCLA)
Prediction : 1-2
The Trojans will be a fun team to watch this weekend, as all three of these games should be close. I think USC's pitching can get them past the Gaels on Friday, but I like Georgia and UCLA in two very tight games to finish the weekend.
UCLA (Friday, Georgia, Saturday, St. Mary's, Sunday, vs USC)
The Bruins have dropped two consecutive series to San Jose State and Nebraska, but I think they get back on track this weekend in the Dodgertown Classic. Expect the Georgia and USC games to be close, but th Bruins should blow out St. Mary's at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Arizona (Friday-Sunday, Northern Colorado)
The Bears haven't played a game in 12 days, and that should hurt them when they meet the hot Wildcats in Tucson this weekend. Arizona hasn't played enough games against teams in BCS Conferences (None, actually) to know if they are for real or not, but they shoudl have no trouble handling Northern Colorado.
Arizona State (Friday-Sunday, @ Auburn)
The Sun Devils have not impressed me so far, despite their 9-2 record. It's also tough to judge how good the Tigers are, so I'm giving ASU the benefit of the doubt and say they win the series.
Record (Either a win, loss, or tie, based on correctly predicting that team's record for the weekend): 10-17-3, Goal: 99-45-5
