Baseball Open Thread: UC Santa Barbara @ OSU (Game 2)

Oregon State and UC Santa Barbara meet at 2:05 PM west coast time today to continue the three game series between the Beavers and Gauchos. After today's meeting, the series will conclude tomorrow with a 1:05 PM first pitch.

Oregon State comes into today with an overall record of 17-5. The Beavers have good wins against Connecticut, Oregon, and Long Beach State (2). Their bad losses have came against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Seattle University. The Beavers are currently on a two game winning streak after beating Seattle University on Wednesday, and UC Santa Barbara last night. Oregon State is currently ranked 23rd in the nation.

The Gauchos come into the series with an overall record of 10-7. Their wins have came against LaSalle (2), Westmont, Sacramento State (2), USC (2), Louisiana-Lafayette, and Nevada (2). Their losses have came against Washington State (2), Pepperdine, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Rice, and Oregon State. Three of their games, against LaSalle, Washington State, and Nevada, have been cancelled due to field conditions, snow, and rain. After the series with the Beavers, the Gauchos are off until Wednesday when they visit Loyola Marymount.

Oregon State's starter will be Josh Osich (2-0), while UC Santa Barbara will send out Matt Vedo (3-2, 2.56). In Oregon State's last Saturday game last weekend at Long Beach State, Ben Wetzler (3-1, 3.33) got the start for Oregon State.

Last year, UC Santa Barbara went 24-30. The Gauchos went 2-5 against Pac-10 opponents in 2010, and are currently 2-3 against the Pac-10 this season.

The weather is is expected to be alright for the duration of the game. The Weather Channel calls for 50° and partly cloudy at 2:05 PM, with showers beginning and the temperature dropping to 45° for the later innings. The rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend, with temperatures not getting much higher.

After today's meeting, the Beavers will conclude their three game series with the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at 1:05 PM on Sunday. After that, the Bavrs will make the trip down to Tucson, Arizona to face the Arizona Wildcats in a three game series next weekend.
