Baseball Open Thread: Seattle University @ OSU (Game 1)

Oregon State and Seattle University meet at 5:35 PM west coast time tonight to begin the two game series between the Beavers and Redhawks. After the short mid-week series, the Beavers will welcome the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos for a three game series, beginning on Friday.

Oregon State comes into tonight with an overall record of 15-4. The Beavers opened up the season in Fresno, where they went 2-2. After the FSU Tournament, the team traveled to Texas, where they went 3-1. Oregon State then came home for a eight game homestand, where they won all eight games against Hartford (4), Oregon, New Mexico State, and VMI (2). And last weekend, Oregon State took two the first two of three games from the Long Beach State 49ers.

The Redhawks come into the series with an overall record of 8-6. Their wins have came against Cal State Northridge (2), Notre Dame (2), Portland (2), Washington, and San Jose State. Their losses have came against Cal State Northridge (2), Notre Dame, Portland, and San Jose State (2). Three of their games, two against Pacific Lutheran and one against San Jose State, have been cancelled due to rain and field conditions. After the short series with the Beavers, Seattle will stay in Oregon and face the Portland Pilots on Friday and Saturday.

Oregon State will send right hander James Nygren (3-0, 2.89) to the mound, but the Redhawks starter is listed as TBA. In Seattle's last Tuesday game, Bryan Dalton (0-0, 1.50) got the start for the Redhawks.

Last year, Seattle University went 11-31 and went 0-1 against Oregon State. 

The weather is is expected to be cool but dry for the duration of the game. The Weather Channel calls for 50° and mostly sunny at 5:35 PM, with temperatures dropping to 43° near the end of the game.

After tonight's meeting, the Beavers and Redhawks will finish their series tomorrow at 3:05 PM Pacific. The Beavers will begin their three game series with the Gauchos at 5:35 PM on Friday.
