Womens’ Weekend Saw Mixed Results

Oregon St.'s womens' teams had mixed results this last weekend.

Gymnastics put up their second best score of the year, 196.675, in front of the second best crowd of the season, Friday night. 3,652 fans watched sixth ranked Oregon St. win the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational, defeating #11 Washington (195.725), San Jose St. (193.050), and UC Davis (192.950). Next Sunday, the Beavers will be in Berkeley, for another four way meet against California, Stanford, and Denver University.

Softball got off to a good start last Thursday in Palm Springs, CA, winning their first game in the Cathedral City Classic 6-5 over Florida St. Things went down hill after that, as the Beavers lost 12-7 to top ranked Georgia on Friday, and then lost twice on Saturday, dropping an 8-4 game against Northwestern, followed by a 3-0 loss to Long Island University of New York. The three losses dropped the Beavers to 5-4 for the year.

Sunday's game against Fresno St. had to be postponed when the game on the field prior to Oregon St.'s game went long, which did not allow enough time for a game to be played before the team had to head to the airport for their flight home. The game will be rescheduled pm a yet to be determined future date.

The team will be in Fullerton, CA, this weekend, for a pair of games on both Friday and Saturday, and a single game Sunday, in the CSUF De Marini Invitational in Fullerton, Calif.

Basketball had a rough start to the weekend in the bay area, suffering by far their worst defeat of the season, a 73-37 loss to #2 Stanford. Lots of teams can make a similar statement after facing Big Red though. Things went better Saturday in Berkley, but despite Sage Indendi hitting five three pointers, which ties her for the single season school record at 69, the Beavers still fell to the Golden Bears 58-49.

Oregon St. (9-18, 2-14) will close out the season at home this weekend, starting with a 7 PM game against the Arizona Wildcats (17-10, 8-8) Thursday night. Thursday's contest is also "Fill Gill" night, with General Admission admission being only $1.

Saturday will be Senior Day for El Sara Greer, the one senior on the squad. The Beavers will face the Arizona St. Sun Devils (17-9, 9-7 [pending their game at Oregon on Thursday]) at 2 PM in Gill Coliseum.
