Another awful week for me, as I only picked three correct records this week. I had six incorrect predictions, and one tie due to Washington State cancelling their final game against UC Santa Barbara.
In case you missed our first posts, I'll be predicting every Thursday-Monday Pac-10 game throughout the season, and I'll keep the records of everyone who joins in at the comments section.
So, here's my Week 3 picks.
Washington (Thursday-Saturday, BYU)
Prediction : 2-1
The Huskies pitching has been pretty bad so far, but I think they should win a series against a mediocre BYU team in Seattle.
Washington State (Friday, vs Oklahoma State, Saturday, vs Minnesota, Sunday, vs South Alabama)
Prediction : 3-0
The main difference between all four of these teams is at the mound. The Cougars should easily get by Oklahoma State and South Alabama, and I think they beat Minnesota with a strong performance from Spencer Jackson.
Oregon (Friday-Sunday, @ Long Beach State)
Prediction : 2-1
Oregon has had trouble closing out games this year, and I think that will hurt them against a feisty Dirtbags team. They should easily take two of the three though.
Oregon State (Friday-Sunday, Hartford (4 Games)
Prediction: 4-0
The Beavers open up a nine game homestand beginning with the Hartford Hawks this weekend. These will be the Hawks first games of the season, so all we know about them is that they will be a little rusty. I'd expect Oregon State to win all four games, especially if their bats continue to heat up.
California (Thursday, @ San Diego, Friday, vs San Diego State, Saturday, vs Oklahoma, Sunday, vs Connecticut)
Prediction: 4-0
I've really liked the Bears so far this year, but 4-0 is still a risky prediction against teams like Oklahoma and Connecticut. But the Sooners haven't played anyone great this season, and the Huskies have not lived up to expectations, so I've got Cal sweeping.
More predictions after the break
Stanford (Friday-Sunday, @ Texas)
Prediction: 1-2
The Cardinal open up the season with their first 10 of 11 games against ranked opponents, and it doesn't get any easier when they visit 12th ranked Texas this weekend. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cardinal take this series. but you've got to like the Horns in Austin.
USC (Friday-Saturday, @ Cal State Fullerton, Sunday, Cal State Fullerton at home)
Prediction : 0-3
An interesting series as the first two games will be played in Fullerton, and the series finale will be played in Los Angeles. I can see the Trojans taking the final game, but Fullerton is a deep and talented team and I have them sweeping.
UCLA (Friday-Sunday, @ Nebraska)
Prediction: 2-1
UCLA's stock is about as low as it gets after dropping a seires to San Jose State last weekend, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them sweep the Cornhuskers. I have them going 2-1 because of the way Nebraska has played so far, and the obvious home field advantage.
Arizona (Friday-Sunday, Utah Valley)
Prediction: 3-0
The Wildcats will be without the services of their top two pitchers after throwing in their two game mid-week series against Rice, but their bullpen should have no problem handling the 3-4 Wolverines.
Arizona State (Thursday, vs Cal State Bakersfield, Friday, vs NIU, Saturday, vs Kansas, Sunday, vs UC Riverside)
Prediction: 4-0
The Sun Devils had a minor blip last weekend when they dropped a game to Delaware, but they should be able to sweep a relatively easy field at the Coca-Cola Classic.
Record (Either a win, loss, or tie, based on correctly predicting that team's record for the weekend): 6-11-3, Goal: 99-45-5
