Pac-10 Baseball: Connor Predicts What Will Happen in Week Five

Another mediocre week for me, picking four records correct, four of them incorrect, and one was a wash because of Oregon State's rain-shortened tournament. California and Oregon were the main killers, as I had both of them going 1-2 over the weekend. Instead, the Golden Bears swept their tournament and the Ducks swept BYU.

In case you missed our first posts, I'll be predicting every Thursday-Monday Pac-10 game throughout the season, and I'll keep the records of everyone who joins in at the comments section.

So, here's my Week 5 picks.

Washington (Friday-Sunday, @ Cal State Fullerton)

Prediction : 0-3

Washington has had an awful start to their season, and it will only get worse when they visit the Titans this weekend. The 3-10 Huskies haven't been able to get it done at the plate or in the field, and a talented Cal State Fullerton club will pounce on them.

Washington State (Thursday-Sunday, @ Fresno State)

Prediction : 2-2

This should be one of the best seires of the weekend, both in the conference and nationally. Fresno State has had an awesome start to their season, while the Cougars have performed a little under expectations. I can see the Bulldgos winning this series, but my gut says that it wil be a 2-2 split.

Oregon (Saturday-Monday, @ San Diego (4)

Prediction : 3-1

The Ducks are hot after their sweep against BYU, and I expect their good hitting to continue in California this weekend against a struggling USD club.

Oregon State (Friday-Sunday, @ Long Beach State)

Prediction: 2-1

Long Beach State has exceeded expectations so far this season, but both clubs will face big tests when they meet this weekend in Long Beach. I think the pitching matchups favor Oregon State in the first two games of the series, and Sunday's probables look pretty even as well. I like Oregon State to get out of California with a 2-1 record.

California (Friday-Sunday, Ohio State, Monday, Nevada)

Prediction: 4-0

Alright Cal fans, I've learned my lesson. The Bears are officially in the "For real" category after beating Louisiana-Lafayette, Rice, and Long Beach State last weekend, and two less than mediocre teams in four days shouldn't give them much trouble this weekend.

More predictions after the break

Stanford (Friday, Michigan, Saturday, Michigan (DH), Monday, @ UC Davis)

Prediction: 4-0

Stanford hasn't been overly impressive so far this season, but they have had a killer schedule. The slate eases up this weekend when the Wolverines come to town. The Cardinal should get an easy sweep over them, but UC Davis will be a little more difficult since it's on the road. Still, I like Stanford to come out 4-0.

USC (Friday-Sunday, Pacific)

Prediction: 2-1

This series just confuses me. It seems that the Trojans are back on track after defeating St. Mary's, UCLA, and Louisville last week, but I just can't pick them to sweep Pacific. It should be interesting.

UCLA (Saturday-Monday, @ Cal Poly)

Prediction: 2-1

I'm starting to worry about the Bruins. After starting the season ranked #2 in the country, UCLA is 8-6 with bad losses against San Jose State (2), Georgia, and USC. They should easily win this series against Cal Poly, but I can't say they are going to sweep it.

Arizona (Saturday-Monday, San Francisco)

Prediction: 3-0

Another series against a mediocre team, another sweep for the Wildcats.

Arizona State (Friday-Sunday, Oral Roberts)

Prediction: 3-0

The Sun Devils had a good weekend in the south, getting a big series win over the Auburn Tigers. Oral Roberts shouldn't give them any trouble, but you never know with this ASU team. Still, I like Arizona State for the sweep.

Record (Either a win, loss, or tie, based on correctly predicting that team's record for the weekend): 14-21-4, Goal: 99-45-5
