Box Score

Beavers starting pitcher, junior Sam Gaviglio, went 8 innings while giving up zero runs on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts.

The Aggies sent Ryan Beck to the mound, who lasted 7 innings after giving up six runs (2 earned) in the second frame. Besides for the second inning, Beck pitched a solid game, giving up no more runs after that. Beck did get the loss and is now 2-2 on the season.

The Beavers got their half of the second inning started with a single by by Parker Berberet. Berberet scored after a throwing error by the Aggie third basemen, and the Beavers led 1-0.

Oregon State was far from done though, and they took a 2-0 lead when Kavin Keyes scored on a balk by Ryan Beck. The errors continued for the Aggies when Jake Rodriguez scored on a throwing error by the NMSU shortstop, and the Beavers took a four run lead when Brian Stamps scored on a sacrifice groundout by Ryan Barnes.

Garrett Nash then scored on a RBI Bunt Single by Luke Acosta, and the Beavers took a 6-0 lead on a Kavin Keyes RBI walk to score Andrew Susac. The inning finally ended after a Jake Rodriguez groundout, but with someone like Sam Gaviglio on the mound, this one was all but over.

The game stayed quiet from then on, with both pitchers dealing. Oregon State would add to their lead in the eighth, taking advantage of a pitching change for the Aggies. Garrett Nash leadoff the inning with a fly ball to center field, but the center fielder dropped the ball and Nash advanced to second. After a Ryan Dunn lineout, Michael Miller drove in Nash on a single to right field. The Beavers went quietly after that, making way for Matt Boyd to close out the game.

Boyd recorded two groundouts and a pop out to end the game, giving Oregon State the shutout win.

The game lasted 2 Hours and the attendance was 2,055. The Beavers improved to 11-3 with the victory and extened their winning streak to eight games. New Mexico State dropped to 11-4 and has now lost two in a row.

Oregon State will face VMI (8-6-1) later today at 4:35 PM Pacific. VMI will face the Aggies earlier in the day.
