Baseball Open Thread: VMI @ OSU (Game 2 of OSU Tourney)

Oregon State and VMI meet at 4:35 PM west coast time today to close out the second day of the Oregon State Tournament. This will be the seventh of a nine game homestand for the Beavers. Oregon State will face VMI and New Mexico State tomorrow to close out the homestand.

Oregon State comes into this game with an overall record of 11-3. The Beavers opened up the season in Fresno, where they went 2-2. After the FSU Tournament, the team traveled to Texas, where they went 3-1. Oregon State then came home for a nine game homestand, where they have won the first six games of the homestand against Hartford (4), Oregon, and New Mexico State.

The Keydets come into Corvallis with an overall record of 8-6-1. Their wins have came against William and Mary, Binghamton (3), Bucknell (2), James Madison, and New Mexico State. Their losses have came against Florida State (3), Virginia, Binghamton, and Bucknell. Their tie came against the Richmond Spiders. The Keydets will face New Meixco State at 12:00 PM Pacific today before taking on the Beavers.

The Beavers will send left hander Ben Wetzler (1-1, 4.40) to the mound, while the Keydets will start left hander Jason Farley (0-3, 5.50).

Last year, VMI went 33-22 and were eliminated by Winthrop in the Big South Tournament. 

The weather is is expected to be good for most of the game, but rain is expected for the later innings. The Weather Channel calls for 50° and partly sunny at 4:35 PM, with rain showers beginning and the temperature dropping to 48° at 7:00 PM.

After the game with VMI, the Beavers will finish the Oregon State Tournament tomorrow with a doubleheader. The Beavers will face VMI at 12:05 PM Pacific, followed by New Mexico State at 4:05 PM.
