Gainesville Regoinal, Game 3
Final Score: Florida Atlantic 11, Oregon State 7
The Beavers were not able to do what they did last season in Forth Worth and three years ago in Charlottesville and win the Sunday morning elimination game to earn a shot to come back through the losers bracket.
Instead, their quest to win the Gainesville Regional fell short on Sunday morning, when Florida Atlantic jumped out to an early lead that the Beavers couldn't overcome
The Beavers trailed 8-0 after 2 innings, but it would be the three insurance runs that Florida Atlantic scored in the seventh inning would keep the game out of reach for the Beavers.
Five players--including seniors Adalberto Santos and Rob Folsom-- got two hits each as the Beavers outhit the Owls 12-11.
Tyler Waldron started the game for the Beavers and couldn't get out of the first inning, as the Owls recorded four hits and scored six runs off of Waldron. Kraig Sitton went five innings in extended damage control relief, and allowed four runs on five hits. Kevin Rhoderick gave up a solo home run in his one inning of work, and Tony Bryant held FAU hitless in the final two innings.
The Beavers were able to get by FAU on Friday in the opener of the regional 6-4, thanks in large part to Tyler Smith's 3-for-4, 3 RBI performance. Smith went 2-for-5 in the leadoff spot in Sunday morning's game, but the Beavers weren't able to find the the same result.
Florida would win 15-0 over Florida Atlantic later Sunday night to win the regional, and advance to play Miami this weekend in Super Regional play.
