Oregon State vs. Arizona // Game 3 // 12pm // Goss Stadium
Oregon State will go for their second Pac-10 sweep of the season this week at Goss Stadium, with a chance to further impress the NCAA Selection Committee in preparation for the announcement of the brackets tomorrow morning.
Hopefully, Oregon State has already been written into the Selection Committee's bracket in pen, but it's impossible to tell what's going through the heads of the nine men who have congregated this weekend to make the big decisions.
Lefthander Tanner Robles will be on the mound today for the Beavers, looking to follow in the footsteps of teammates Greg Peavey and Sam Gaviglio with a quality start. Both Peavey and Gaviglio pitched into the eighth inning of their games in this series, with Gaviglio striking out 13 while shutting out the Wildcats.
Robles has been struggling as of late, only pitching into the fifth inning in one of his last four starts. He picked up a win two weeks ago against Washington, but five of his last seven starts have been no decisions. The good news is that the Beavers have conserved most of their bullpen in the past two games. Tyler Waldron appeared both on Friday and Saturday for short stints, and Kraig Sitton only needed one pitch Saturday to get the clean up the eighth inning for Gaviglio. That means Rhoderick, Boyd, Gorton, and Bryant all have fresh arms and will be available if needed for Sunday's game.
While Adalberto Santos' bat was quiet yesterday, the Beavers are now 2-0 with starting third baseman Stefen Romero out of the lineup. Oregon State's final four hitters went 5-for-10 in yesterday's game, and scored four of the five runs in the game.
Note: Be sure to come to Building the Dam tomorrow morning at 9am, as we get ready for and watch the NCAA Selection Show on ESPN. An open thread will be posted in advance of the show, and, if the Beavers get into the tournament, we'll begin previewing the three teams OSU could have to deal with this coming weekend.
