Coca-Cola Classic Recap

The Beavers went 2-1 in Surprise to improve their record to 7-3 on the 2010 Season. The Beavers ended up outscoring their opponents 23-9, with great Offensive showings on Thursday and Saturday. Now let's take a look at Game 1.

In the first game of the Coca-Cola Classic, the Beavers beat UC Riverside, 10-3. After a scoreless 1st Inning, the Beavers got things going in the second. All with two outs, the Beavers crossed the plate four times in the second frame. Parker Berberet had an RBI Single, Jared Norris scored on a Wild Pitch, and Keith Jennette had a 2 RBI Sacrifice Bunt.

The highlight of the game came in the third inning when Freshman Pitcher Matt Boyd hit a Two Run Homer to Right Center Field to give the Beavers a 6-0 advantage.

UC Riverside cut the Beavers lead to five in the 4th Inning when Michael Hur hit a Solo Home Run to Left Center Field. The game stayed scoreless after that until the 7th Inning, when Dan Pellegrino hit a Two Run Homer to cut the Beavers lead to 3 Runs.

But Oregon State would put the game out of reach in the bottom half of the inning. The Rally started with a Rob Folsom 2 RBI Triple to put the Beavers back up by 5. But Oregon State wasn't done yet. With Two Outs, Parker Berberet hit a Two Run Homer to Left Field to give the Beavers a 10-3 win.

The time of game was 2 hours and 15 minutes and the attendance was 425. Now let's take a look at Game 2.

In the second game of the Coca-Cola Classic, the Beavers lost to Arizona State, 6-4. It was the Beavers that would draw first blood though. In the Second Inning, Carter Bell scored on a Wild Pitch and Andrew Susac hit an RBI Single to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead. The Beavers picked up another run in the next inning off of a throwing error by the Sun Devil Shortstop to give the Beavers a 3 Run advantage.

In the 4th Inning, Arizona State tied the game up with three runs thanks to two Wild Pitches and Four Hits. ASU would get insurance runs in the next three innings, with Johnny Ruettiger getting an RBI Single in the Fifth, Zack MacPhee scored on a Wild Pitch in the Sixth, and Drew Maggi got a Sacrifice Fly in the Seventh to give the Devils a 6-3 lead. Oregon State tried to rally in the 8th and 9th Innings, but they only got One Run in the 8th to make the Final Score 6-4.

The time of game was 3 Hours and 30 Minutes and the Attendance was 2,345. Now let's take a looks at Game 3.

In the final game of the Coca-Cola Classic, the Beavers defeated Utah Valley, 9-0. The Beavers got things going in the 2nd Inning with a Stefen Romero Double. Romero scored on a Travis Anderson RBI Double, and Tyler Smith Singled in Anderson to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead. In the third Inning, Stefen Romero singled in Rob Folsom to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead, and Blake Gibbs recorded an RBI when he was Hit by a Pitch with the Bases Loaded.

In the Fourth Inning, the Beavers broke the game open with five runs. The Beavers only recorded two hits in the Inning, but the Beavers capitalized on Utah Valley Walks and Errors. Carter Bell highlighted the Inning with a 2 RBI Single to Left Field. After the Fourth, both Pitchers dominated the game and allowed no more runs the rest of the way.

The time of game was 2 Hours and 35 Minutes and the Attendance was 315.

Overall, the Beavers did what they wanted to this weekend. Have a good game with Arizona State, and win the other games. Like we've been saying, as long as we keep winning these Series we should be happy come May.

Next up for the Beavers is the OSU Spring Tournament in Corvallis, Oregon. The Tourney will include Utah, Portland, and of course, the Beavers. Utah is 5-5, and Portland is 6-2 on the season.
