Baseball Game 14 Open Thread: Oregon State vs. Maine

Oregon State vs. Maine (Game 1) // 5:30 PM, Goss Stadium // Radio on KPAM 860

I had planned to write an in-depth recap of the Beaver baseball team's first 13 games this week due to my lack of coverage of the team this far, but that didn't happen-- and now I'm just trying to scrap together an open thread for today's game. Such as life, I guess... but with basketball over, expect much more baseball coverage from me here on Building the Dam.

The Beavers are 10-3 at this point in the season, with a four game series against Maine and five more non-conference games left before Pac-10 play begins. Pat Casey and the Beavers are still tinkering with the lineups, as 20 position players and 12 pitchers have been used so far.

Oregon State currently has the lowest batting average in the conference at .241, but opponents are hitting just .219 against the Beaver pitching. Several players are off to a hot start offensively, but Stefen Romero and Carter Bell-- who have played the majority of the time-- are hovering right around .300.

On the mound, Greg Peavey, Tanner Robles, and Tyler Waldron each have three or four starts apiece, and are leading the staff in innings pitched-- that's the likely rotation for this season. The team ERA is 2.80, which ranks third the Pac-10.

Maine, who the Beavers haven't played since 1994, is 7-8 on the season.

Here's the place to talk about Game 1 of this four game weekend series for the Beavers.
