Oregon running back LaMichael James, the nation's leading rusher and scorer, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, Boise St. quarterback Kellen Moore, and Auburn quarterback Cam Newton are the finalists for this year's Heisman Trophy, and will be in New York Saturday when the Downtown Athletic Club hands out the award.
Cam Newton will almost assuredly win, for a couple of reasons more important than his considerable ability. For one thing, there are many more voters east of the Rockies than west of them. For another, James, Luck, and Moore will split the votes from the few west coast voters.
Beaver fans are possibly in as good a position as anyone to judge who should win, having faced three of them. I wonder when the last time one team took on that array of talent was.
