Chris Viegas, an outfielder for the Cañada College Colts, has accepeted a scholarship offer from Oregon State and will play next season. He is described as a great hitter with blazing speed. He also went to the same junior college as Corvallis High School star, Harold Renolds. Chris will be a Junior when he enrolls for Oregon State.
Viegas is 5 foot 11 and weighs 175 pounds. He throws right handed and bats right, and he is studying in Business. Chris was a former standout for St. Francis High School in California, and then transfered from the University of San Diego so he could continue his baseball career at Cañada College.
In high school, Chris hit a sizzling .385 in the tough WCAL and was named 2nd Team All-WCAL in his Senior Year. In his Junior year at St. Francis, Viegas hit for a .365 average and recieved 3rd Team Honorable Mention. He was also named to the prestigious Bay Area World Series showcase event, and participated in the Area Code games.
Chris was heavily recruited out of high school because of not only athletics but academics, and took a scholarship at USD, where he was primarily used as a pinch runner. He enjoys playing guitar, piano, and fishing when he's not playing baseball or in the classroom.
He sounds like a great additon to the program for the Beavers.
