First of all, a special thanks to The VD Special and RVM for covering while I scampered away for the weekend. Next time I'll plan it a bit better.
If you're like me and spend the weekend away from the World Wide Web, you need to get caught up. Here's what went down in Beaver Nation over the weekend:
The Men's Basketball team completed a season sweep of not just Stanford, but Cal! That's 4-0 against teams from the Bay Area, people! With the win, the Beavers move to 7-8 in Pac-10 play and 13-13 on the season.
The baseball team dropped their season-opener in heartbreaking fashion, losing 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning with Kevin Rhoderick on the mound. The Beavers bounced back on Saturday, however, defeating the Volunteers 14-4 thanks to an explosive ninth inning. Then, on Sunday, snow and ice covered Lindsey Nelson stadium, forcing the players to board their charter without the chance to compete for a seres win. The women's basketball team wasn't as fortunate as the men's team, as they were swept over the weekend by the Bay Area teams, giving the Lady Beavers an 0-4 record against the two toughest teams in the conference. LaVonda's team will stay in California for a few more days and play at Santa Barbara on Tuesday, before returning for the Civil War.
The softball team completed their third tournament of the season in Cathederal Park, California. The Lady Beavers won their first two games over Tennessee Tech and Kansas before dropping the next four in succession. The Beavers now head to Fullerton for the DeMarini Invitational this weekend.
More in-depth coverage of some of the aforementioned subjects coming soon.
