Coming off a 19-point win in the Civil War, the Lady Beavers traveled down to the desert this past weekend to play Arizona and Arizona State. Arizona entered the weekend at 1-8 in Pac-10 play, and 8-12 on the season. Arizona State, on the other hand, was 8-2 in conference and 16-6 overall before the Beavers visisted Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday.
On Thursday against the Wildcats, three players scored in double figures as the Beavers made eight three-pointers as a team-- seven in the first half. Center Alex Mitchell attained her second double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. Of the fifteen points, nine came from the charity stripe in the second half.
Guard Brittney Davis connected on five three pointers and led the team in the game with 20 points, and Talisa Rhea hit three three's of her own and scored 13 points in the game.
Also: In the process of getting her three three-pointers and 13 points overall, Rhea moved into second place in Oregon State history for three-point field goals. She now has 116 three-pointers in less than two full seasons.
In Tempe, the Beavers didn't fair as well. Although Brittney Davis scored 17 points, her sixth straight games in double figures, the Beavers were defeated 65-54. Davis has now led the team in scoring in the last three games and five of the last six, averaging 19.1 points over the course of those games.
Oregon State trailed for nearly the course of the game, and trailed by 17 points at halftime. The Lady Sun Devils led by as much as 21 at several points in the second half, before the Beavers chipped into the ASU lead towards the end of the first half.
Next up for the Beavers is Washington and Washington State, who will be in town this week.
