Connor's Thursday Pac-10 Basketball Open Thread

Here's a post Connor wrote for today's Pac-10 games. Post your comments in the thread! --Jake

Today marks the first day of the 2009-2010 Pac-10 Basketball Season. 8 out of the 10 teams are in action, with only the Bay Area schools sitting today out. Below is the schedule and a quick preview for each game.

December 31st Pac-10 Games
Matchup Time (Pacific) Network
Arizona State @ UCLA 1:30 PM FSN
Oregon @ Washington State 3:30 PM Comcast Sports Net
Arizona @ USC 4:00 PM No TV
Oregon State @ Washington 7:00 PM FSN NW

Arizona State @ UCLA
The Sun Devils come into Pauley Pavilion with a record of 10-3. They have had a couple of good wins against TCU and LSU, but in their two tests of the season (Duke and Baylor) they fell short.

The disappointing Bruins come into the game with a record of 5-7. The Bruins had lost five in a row before winning three out of their last four.

Prediction: Arizona State-77, UCLA-75

Oregon @ Washington State

Oregon comes into Pac-10 play with a record of 8-4. The Ducks have won four in a row, but have played some pretty easy competition. It should be interesting to see how they do against against Pac-10 teams.

The Cougars come into the game red-hot with a record of 10-2. They have won four straight and their only losses have been at Gonzaga and at Kansas State. I expect the Cougs to challenge rival Washington and California for the conference crown.

Prediction: Washington State-76, Oregon-63

Arizona @ USC

The Wildcats come into the game with a record of 6-6. Arizona has a couple good wins (Colorado and NC State) but they struggled with Lipscomb and lost by 30 against BYU.

The red-hot Trojans come into the game with a record of 8-4, but they have won six games straight. They beat Tennessee by 22 points, and they also defeated UNLV by 11. They also won the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii over Christmas Vacation.

Prediction: USC-74, Arizona-64

Oregon State @ Washington

The streaky Beavers come into the game with a record of 6-5. Oregon State has had good wins over at George Washington, and home against Colorado and Fresno State. The Beavs have struggled mightily at times though, falling to Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Sacrameto State, and ICU. Depending on what Oregon State team shows up, I think the Beavers can hang with the Huskies.

The Huskies come into the game with a record of 9-2. Washington's only losses have come against Texas Tech and Georgetown. The Huskies are very fast and talented, but the Beavers new Freshman might keep Oregon State in this one.

Prediction: Washington-79, Oregon State-70

I'll be in and out of the thread all day, watching Football and enjoying the New Year's Eve Festivities. So if you feel like talking Pac-10 Hoops, this is your place.

Go Beavs and Happy New Year!
