OSU vs. Pacific Game 2 Thoughts

The Beavers used their second seven run inning in as many days to build a lead against Pacific, and although the Tigers made a late inning surge, the Beavers were win the series and move one step closer to the necessary sweep. Jorge Reyes gave up three runs on four hits and struck out seven. He had a no-hitter going through six innings, and lost the shutout in the eighth.

The linescore:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Pacific 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 3 6 7 1
Oregon State 0 0 0 1 7 0 0 0 x 8 15 1

A few quick hits:

  • Logan Boyd returned to the lineup after a career night yesterday. He backed up his breakout performance from Game 1 of the series with another strong performance. He went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. The good news is that he's finally making his way into the lineup. The bad news is that there's only one regular season game left.
  • Every Beaver starter got at least one hit in the game. As for the Beavers to get more than one hit: Robertson went 2-for-5, as did Ryan Ortiz. Boyd went 2-for-3, and Wong went 3-for-4.
  • If there's been one thing that's screwed us over all season, it's been the ability to keep a lead and finish. (That's what she said!) That's exactly how disaster almost happened tonight. Jorge pitched a great game, but then he came out and it took four other pitchers to finish off six guys.
  • Eight balls were hit to Joey Wong at shortstop. Two were hit to Lechelt at second.  Crazy, huh?

Don't throw in the towel yet.

WE. MUST. WIN. TOMORROW.

GO BEAVERS!
