Just a few bullet points before we gear up for tonight's big game...
-
What a win... Great job by the Beavers to come from three back in the bottom of the ninth to pull of the win. See the linescore below...
- Stutes... Great outing by Stutes. Mike brought a no-hitter into the eighth inning before the Sun Devils started to put a rally together. Stutes ended up being responsible for all four Sun Devil runs, but still managed to strike out nine hitters on the outing. He didn't pick up the win, but deserved it.
- Peavey... Greg Peavey was the one who pitched against the Sun Devils in that preseason game in the late part of February. The Sun Devils tore him up in the first inning of that start for seven runs. Peavey got the last laugh in yesterday's game, striking out ASU's Rocky Laguna, earning the win. He moves to 2-1 on the season.
- Lonnie.. Lonnie Lechelt came up big for the Beavs, tripling in the top of the ninth to scoring Jordan Lennerton and Daniel Robertson. Lonnie would eventually score the winning run on a base hit by Chris Hopkins.
- Errorless Defense!
- K-Rhod Kevin Rhoderick continued to dominate in the closer role with his seventh save of the season. Kevin earned this one the hard way, walking the first batter of the inning and allowing a base hit to the second batter. With the winning run at the plate and Arizona State needing to bunt their runners to second and third, Kevin struck out the bunt man, Raoul Torrez. With one out and two on, Kevin came back and struck out Ryan Sontag to get to ASU's leader, Brett Wallace. Wallace grounded out to second base with the tying run on second to end the game.
Tonight's game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Look for an open thread just before game time, as the Beavers look to win the series with a win tonight. Freshman Tanner Robles will likely get the start for the Beavers.
GO BEAVERS!
