The Beavers have a mid-week game scheduled with the Portland Pilots today before they head to Berkeley for their second Pac-10 conference series of the season. Look for Pat Casey to play around with the lineup a little bit, but bottom line is he needs a win.
On the mound for the Beavers is... Josh Osich. The 6'3", 195 pound freshman lefty out of Boise, Idaho is 0-0 so far this season with five appearance and a 7.71 ERA. Josh pitched one inning agaisnt the Pilots the last time these two teams met, back on March 4. In that game Osich pitched one inning, striking out the side in order. It's now the end of March, and Josh's ERA has gone up considerably due to a shaky performance March 21 against Pepperdine. In that outing, Josh went one inning, threw 55 pitches, and gave up four runs on three hits.
On the mound for the Pilots is... Brennan Thorpe. He's big... 6'7", 215. The junior right hander is 2-0 on the season with a 5.40 ERA. In five starts and 25 innings pitched, Brennan has 12 strikeouts, 10 walks, has allowed 31 hits, and opponents are hitting .298 against him.
In the last game of the series... the Beavers blistered the Pilots for a 16-0 win. Tanner Robles handled the starting duties in that game, going three innings without allowing a run. Joey Wong was 5-for-6 in the game with a home run, part of a Beaver offense that racked up 18 hits. The Pilots could only put up two hits against five different Beaver pitchers.
Looking for Casey's 40th... Head Coach Pat Casey is 39-9 all time against the Pilots. A win today would give him his 40th win over Portland as Oregon State head coach.
Hitting Streaks... Chris Hopkins stretched his hitting streak to nine games with his 1-for-4 performance in yesterday's game. John Wallace has strung a three game hitting streak together.
The game is scheduled to start at 5:00. I'll likely miss the first few innings, but feel free to chat in the comment section below.
GO BEAVERS!
