Alex Mitchell named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

From the official Pac-10 Release:

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- OREGON STATE sophomore center Alex Mitchell was named Pac-10 Player of the Week for Dec. 15-21, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Mitchell, a native of Oakland, Calif., recorded three double-digit scoring performances in the Beaver's wins over UNLV (91-54), UC Irvine (71-42) and Cal State Bakersfield (60-56) last week. The sophomore averaged 17.7 points and almost seven rebounds per game, helping Oregon State beat its opponents by an average of over 25 points in the last three games.

In OSU's victory over UNLV, Mitchell shot 10-14 from the field, recording a career-high 23 points. In the Beaver's next two games, Mitchell had two more double-digit scoring outings, extending her streak to five in a row.

Mitchell currently leads the Pac-10 in shooting percentage, making over 65 percent of her shots. Oregon State is currently on a five-game win streak and off to the best start in more than a decade, with the Beavers notching a 8-1 mark to start the season.

This week's Pac-10 Player of the Week honor is the second for the Beavers, with sophomore Talisa Rhea garnering the award after the first week of the season. OSU has produced 31 conference players of the week all-time.

The Beavers are off until Dec. 28, when they are scheduled to host Western Oregon.

Good work Alex!

GO BEAVERS!
