I'm not really sure what this thread will turn into, but if you're snowed in at home and want to talk about OSU Hoops as they look for their fourth win in five games, here's your place.
Pregame: Oregon State comes into the game with a 3-5 record, and they've won three of their last four. These two teams met earlier this year in the nation's capitol, where Howard prevailed by a basket, 47-45. Since winning that game, the Bison have lost six consecutive games, including their conference opener against Hampton. Howard is led by junior forward Eugene Myatt, who averages 12.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Calvin Haynes leads the Beavers with 17 points per game, although he's only played in two games so far this season. Perhaps a more accurate point leader would be sophomore forward Omari Johnson, who averages 11 points per game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:06 PM at Gill Coliseum.
Halftime Thoughts: The Beavers started out the game shooting 1 of 7 from the field, but recovered nicely. The good news is that Oregon State vastly improved from the rough start, and Howard shot even worse. The Beavers finished the half shooting 16 of 26 (61.5%) from the field, compared to Howard, which shot 7 of 27 (25.9%). At halftime, it's Oregon State 42, Howard 15.
Mid-Second Half Update: Oregon State continues to control the game, and the Beavers are currently shooting 13 of 20 from the field. The Beavers have three players over 15 points... Calvin Hampton has 17, Omari Johnson has 16, and Ricky Claitt has 15. With 6:23 left in the game, it's Oregon State 73, Howard 42.
Postgame: Final score.... Oregon State 90, Howard 54. Omari Johnson finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds on the game. Calvin Haynes, in his third game of the season, matched his season average with 17 points. Ricky Claitt finished with 15. That's three in a row for the Beavers. Look for a post-game wrap-up sometime tonight. (Update- Game story now up.)
