It took me awhile to get around to this post, but when your team racks up seven turnovers, it can sometimes be hard to find something positive to say.
This week, we'll start with the defense.
There's not much to say here, but take away some of Mauk's long passes, and the numbers look a lot better. He passed for 199 yards, 50 of those coming on a trick play to Greg Moore.
For another week, the run defense was dominant, holding Cincinnati's leading rusher to 47 yards. Mauk ended up with -27 rushing yards.
But, when you give up seven turnovers, there's not much a defense can do. Cincinnati's longest drive was seven plays, and that only went 17 yards.
The bottom line is that Oregon State needs to find a quarterback who can go through a game without making mistakes. Granted, it has historically taken quarterbacks a long time to adapt to Riley's system. We just need someone that can score enough points on offense, and then let the defense win the game. Our defense is loaded.
This is one of those games you can and need to learn from, but there's really not much to say. At this point, we just need improvement every week. And Idaho State should be a good tune-up.
GO BEAVERS!
