Former Beavers in the Pros, August 10th

New, comment

Note: This should have been posted yesterday, so when I refer to "last night" that really means two nights ago. Thanks.

A long time overdue, here's a rundown of this year's Beavers playing in the minor leagues. In a few days we'll start taking a look players from previous years. (Gunderson, Nickerson, Ellsbury, Graham, etc.)

Mitch Canham
Eugene Emeralds, Class A Short Season Northwest League

Mitch is hitting .300 with the Emeralds, going 18 for 60 with 12 runs in 15 games. Rumor had it that Mitch was preparing to move up in the system when he encountered an injury involving a protective cup that required him to sit out for a few weeks. He's back now, and hopefully he can continue with the level of play he had before the injury, and hopefully earn a promotion. Last night Mitch went 0-2 with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. He stole a base and scored 2 runs.

Mike Lissman
Arizona League Athletics, Arizona Rookie League

Mike is hitting .224 with the AZL Athletics, going 19 for 85 with 14 runs scored in 24 games. He has homered twice, struck out 11 times, and went 0-3 with a walk and a strikeout in his last game on 8/7. He did not play in his teams last game on the 8th, but hopefully it was just a day off and he will return to playing everyday.

Anton Maxwell
Clinton Lumber Kings, Class A Midwest League

Anton pitched in seven games with Spokane before moving up to Clinton. With the Lumber Kings, he's pitched in five games, going 7.1 innings. He's given up 5 hits and 4 runs, and recorded 4 strikeouts.

Daniel Turpen
Salem Keizer Volcanoes, Class A Shortseason Northwest League

Daniel threw in four games with the Arizona League Giants before moving up to the Volcanoes. He pitched 9.1 innings, gave up 1 run on 10 hits, and struck out five in his time in the desert. In Salem, he's pitched in three games for a total of four innings, striking out 4 and walking 2.

Joe Paterson
Salem Keizer Volcanoes, Class A Shortseason Northwest League

Joe, like his buddy Dan mentioned above, threw in four games with the Arizona League Giants before getting the promotion. In Salem-Keizer, he's pitched in three games for 2 total innings. He's given up two runs on four hits, walked two, and struck out four.

Darwin Barney
Peoria Chiefs, Class A Midwest League

Darwin played five games in the Arizona League before getting moved up in the Cubs organization. He batted .444 in Arizona. With his current team, the Peoria Chiefs, he's gone 20 for 78 in 20 games. That boils down to an average of .256, due in some part to a 3-for-5 performance last night. Darwin also hit his first home run as a professional last night, and got a key RBI to help his team win the game. His 3 hit night ended a streak of five games with one hit or less.

Eddie Kunz
Brooklyn Cyclones, Class A Shortseason New York/ Penn League

Eddie is just getting started as a pro. He's pitched in three games, going for 2.2 innings, giving up 3 hits, 3 runs, and striking out 1. He currently has a 10.12 era due to one rough outing in which he allowed three runs over two thirds of an inning. Once he gets some more appearances, that number should drop.

Go Beavers!
