So, as we all know by now, the Blazers took Greg Oden as the first pick of the 2007 NBA Draft. The Blazers worked their magic for the second year in a row, picking up eight players, and dealing out four. The biggest move of the night came when the Blazers delt Zach Randolph, Dan Dickau, and Freddy Jones to the Knicks for Steve Francis and Channing Frye. Fans were initially pissed at this move, but in the grand scheme of things, I don't understand their pissed-ness. First of all, they have Greg Oden. They got rid of a big problem (Zach), while gaining a couple of guys that could help out in the future. Today's draft completed a total re-vamp of the Blazer's franchise: Every player has been replaced over the last two years. Feel kind of bad for Freddy though. As one Blazer fan said: "I had to have oral surgery this morning and I still think you had the worst day of the two of us. By far."
Totally spaced to post this, but Pat Casey got National Coach of the Year for the second year in a row, as voted by Collegiate Baseball Magazine. this topic deserves it's own post, and that will come later today.
Speaking of coaches, Double T Nation brought it to my attention that Dan Spencer is talking to Texas Tech about the pitching coach position. I'll try to keep a close eye on this one. If anyone hears anything, you can either post it in a comment thread, in a diary, or you can e-mail me.
It just hit me-- Joey Wong has won three championships in three years. You may not know this, but Joey went to Sprague High School, and played football there as well as baseball. In his junior year, he quarterbacked the Olympians to a State Championship. As a senior, he was on the State Championship baseball team as a shortstop. And as a freshman at Oregon State, he helped the team win a National Championship.
You complete this sentence: As a sophomore at Oregon State, Joey ________________________.
It has been brought to my attention that the guys over at Golden State of Mind brought in 61,058 visits and about 115,000 page views yesterday. That is incredible, but these guys deserve it. Every first round draft pick has it's own post over at GSoM, and each one has comments. Or, Maybe it had something to do with the trade of Jason Richardson to the Bulls for Brandon Wright. Not everyone was happy about that...
In case you haven't heard, 12 year old Alexis Thompson qualified for the Women's US Open that's being played this week at Pine Needles Golf Club. She shot a 5-over 76. Head over to Waggle Room to read all about it.
