Championship Game 1 :: OSU 11, NC 4

Freshman pitcher Jorge Reyes propelled the Beavers over the Tar Heels in Game 1 of the Championship Series with a very solid 6 and one third innings of work. He allowed eight hits and three runs, walked only one, and struck out three. He got the win, moving his season record to 7-3.

Joe Patterson came on in relief, and he went two and two thirds, gave up four hits and a run, walked one, and struck out two. He has pitched in every game in Omaha.

After six innings, the Beavers lead 6-2. The Tar Heels scored one in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to three, but then the Beavers blew the game open with a four run bottom of the seventh, putting the score at 10-4. The Beavers should have got more than four runs in that inning, as they had the bases loaded with one out, and they had already put three across. The Beavers scored one more in the eighth, putting the final score at 11-4, Beavers.

Overall, the Beavers weren't as efficient as they had been in previous games, but they got away with it. Our defense had a couple of sloppy errors in the outfield, and Darwin missed a couple of throws. We also had some base running mistakes, and had trouble getting the bunt down. Still, with all these hiccups, the Beavers still won by seven.

Game 2 is tonight, same time, same place. We're heading out of the hotel to find some things to do, but we should be back before the game. I hope to take a look at some stats, and talk a little about the Reyes family before tonight's game.
