Oregon State's coaching staff made a last second decision to swap starting pitchers Mike Stutes and Joe Patterson to get better match ups, and that move benefited the Beavers in Charlottesville. They beat the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 5-1. Patterson, the regular OSU Saturday starter, went six innings, giving up five hits and a run. Fellow McMinnville native Daniel Turpen finished up the game, only allowing two hits. Between the two of them, they combined for five strikeouts.
The Beavers got eleven hits on the day, and had a lot of wasted opportunities. They got the bases loaded in the second inning, but they were only able to score one run, and that run scored on an error that should have been out number three. In the third inning, the Beavers got another run, but that was after having four batters reach base. The run scored when Lissman singled to right center, and Joey Wong motored from second to home.
In the fifth, the Beavers got a single, and then back to back to back doubles by Hopkins, Wallace, and Santschi to give them three quick runs, the last runs that would be scored in the game.
The Beavers will now play Virginia at 3:00 PM Pacific today. Mike Stutes will be the starter for the Beavers, and it will probably be Jacob Thompson.
Go Beavers!
