Beavers win 8-2, We're Going Back to Omaha!

New, comment

The Beavers used a four run second inning and a three run fifth inning to propel themselves over Michigan 8-2 in the Corvallis Super Regional on Monday. Mike Stutes went 8 innings, giving up three hits, two of them home runs by Michigan CF Eric Rose. Stutes struck out nine and only walked one; that walk was erased on a 9-3 double play where Darwin Barney and Joey Wong tricked the Michigan baserunner into think they were relaying to get him at third, when really Braden Wells caught the ball no problem in right field. See ya!

Eddie Kunz came on in relief of Stutes in the ninth, after the second Rose home run. Eddie got it done, and the game ended with a 1-4-3 double play.

At the plate, Darwin Barney led the Beavers with a 3-for-5 effort. Joey Wong was 0-for-3, but he got the job done with two RBI's-- one of them a great squeeze bunt to put the Beavers up 5-0 in the fifth. Canham got two hits, which was good to see, since he has been struggling of late. Hopefully he will continue to develop a hot bat into Omaha.

This was a classic Beaver victory, and I'm glad I was able to attend. I was happy to see it over quickly because I felt like it took a lot of pressure of the players and allowed them to play their game.

I've got some pictures and a video I still need to get up, so look for that in the near future.

GO BEAVERS! On to Omaha!
