OSU vs. Stanford :: Saturday Live Blog

Note: Live Blog in Progress.

Here we go, with Game 2 of the Series:

Top 1

1:05 PM PDT The Beavers line up will be: Hopkins, Ogata, Canham, Barney, Lennerton, Lissman, Santscho, George, and Wong.

1:08 PM PDT Hopkins grounds out for the first out.

1:10 PM PDT Ogata grounded out to third for the second out. Canham walked, and Barney grounded out to second to end the inning.

Bottom 1

1:13 PM PDT Seawell and Ratliff both grounded out to second for two quick outs.

1:15 PM PDT Gerhart singled down the right field line, then Taylor singled on a ball hit to Darwin Barney's right that he almost made a play on.

1:20 PM PDT With runners on first and second, Sorgi tripped to left field on a ball Lissman should have gotten to. Sorgi picked up two RBI's. Milleville grounded out to third to end the inning.

Top 2

1:24 PM PDT The Beavers will send Lennerton, Lissman, and Santschi to the plate.

1:25 PM PDT Jeffery Inman issues a four pitch walk to Lennerton. Lissman at the plate.

1:28 PM PDT Inman walks Lissman too, which is not the way he wanted to start the inning after his team gave him an early two run cushion. Scott Santschi at the plate with runners on first and second.

1:30 PM PDT Scott Santschi and Drew George struck out to get OSU's first outs of the inning. Inham can't hit with his fastball, so he earned those K's primarily with the changeup.

1:35 PM PDT Joey Wong walked to load the bases for Chris Hopkins. All three base runners were walked.

1:36 PM PDT Chirs Hopkins ripped a pitch between the third baseman and the shortstop into left field, driving home Lissman and Lennerton to tie the game. Wong is now at second, and Hopkins is at first as DH Jason Ogata comes to the plate.

1:39 PM PDT Jason Ogata struck out to end the inning. Inman got every out of the inning by way of strikeouts, but he managed to give up three walks and one hit, allowing the Bevers to tie the game at 2.

Thru 1 and a half, it's Oregon State 2, Stanford 2

Bottom 2

1:40 PM PDT The Beavers will face Brian Juhl, Cord Phelps, and whomever fills the DH spot for the Cardinal.

1:41 PM PDT Joe Patterson hits the lead off hitter, Juhl, and Cord Phelps comes to the plate. 1:43 PM PDT Cord Phelps slapped up the middle to Patterson, he turned around and threw to second to begin a 1-4-3 double play. Two down, nobody on for the Stanford DH, Whitlow.

1:44 PM PDT Patterson gave up his third home run of the season to Jeff Whitlow, and the Beavers no longer have the lead. Top of the line up will come to the plate for Stanford.

1:46 PM PDT Ryan Seawell flies out to center to end the inning.

After 2, it's Stanford 3, Oregon State 2

Top 3

1:46 PM PDT The Beavers will bring Canham, Barney and Lennerton to the plate.

1:50 PM PDT Canham grounded out to the second baseman Adam Sorgi. Barney popped up to Toby Gerhart in left, and quickly there is two outs for Jordan Lennerton.

1:51 PM PDT Lennerton gets a homer of his own, and we are once again tied, this time at 3. Mike Lissman comes to the plate with two down, and is very capable of following suit of Lennerton.

1:52 PM PDT Lissman grounded out to end the inning, but not after Jordan Lennerton's blast to left center tied the game.

After 3 and a half, it's tied, 3-3

Bottom 3

1:53 PM PDT The Stanford will send up Sean Ratliff, Toby Gerhart, and Michael Taylor.

1:57 PM PDT Ratliff singled. Toby Gerhart comes to the plate.

2:00 PM PDT Patterson comes inside and hits Gerhart, putting guys on first and second, and giving Patterson his second hit batter of the game, 12th on the season. Michael Taylor comes to the plate now, with nobody out. Spence comes to the mound now to attempt to settle down Patterson.

2:02 PM PDT Michael Taylor took Patterson deep to center, but Chris Hopkins was able to make the catch on the warning track. The runner at second tags to third, putting runners on the corners with one out.

2:05 PM PDT Adam Sorgi singled to center, scoring Ratliff from third. Stanford once again has the lead, 4-3.

2:07 PM PDT Stanford grounded into a double play to end the inning, but not before Adam Sorgi pushed across his third RBI of the game.

Top 4

2:08 PM PDT Santschi, George, and Wong coming up for the Beavers.

2:12 PM PDT Santschi and George both walk for their second strikeouts of the game in as many at bats.

2:13 PM PDT Joey Wong reached on an infield single, bringing up the top of the order.

2:16 PM PDT Hopkins singled to third base, moving Joey Wong to second. A bad hop gave Jason Ogata a base hit when the ball bounced over Cord Phelps' head. Wong scored, and Hopkins went from first to third. With Mitch Canham at the plate, there are runners on first and third, two down.

2:20 PM PDT Canham struck out on a change up high in the strike zone, and the Beavers are done in the fourth.

In the middle of the fourth, it's 4-4.

Bottom 4

2:22 PM PDT Joe Patterson has allowed runs in every inning, and he looks to put up a 0 on the scoreboard this inning.

2:26 PM PDT Juhl and Phelps both flew out to the outfield, and then Whitlow singled. Ryan Seawell singled on a chopper over the third baseman's head, and with runners on the corners, Sean Ratliff is at the plate.

2:28 PM PDT Seawell grounded out to Joey Wong at second, and the inning is over. Patterson indeed did put up a zero in that inning, and the Beavers look to take the lead in the bottom of Top of the fifth.

Top 5

2:30 PM PDT It will be Barney, Lennerton, and Lissman for the Beavers.

2:32 PM PDT Barney nearly reached on a check swing bunt-ish thing, then Lennerton flied out to left, and nearly caused a collision. Lissman is up now.

2:34 PM PDT Lissman hit a ball hard up the third base line cut off by the third baseman, but his throw to first was wide left, and Milleville missed it. The ball rolled into the spacions foul territory at Sunken Diamond, and Lissman got around to third.

2:38 PM PDT Scott Santschi struck out to end the inning, and the Beavers leave the go ahead run on third base.

Bottom 5

2:39 PM PDT The heart of the order, 3-4-5, is due up for the Cardinal.

2:41 PM PDT Patterson gets his first strikeout of the game, fanning Toby Gerhart.

2:43 PM PDT Taylor hit a weak swinging bunt to Patterson, and Joe threw him out for the second out.

2:44 PM PDT Darwin Barney puts away the final Stanford batter, ending the Beavers first 1-2-3 inning of the game.

Top 6

2:44 PM PDT 8-9-1 due up for the Beavers.

2:47 PM PDT Drew George struck out swinging. Drew George ans Scott Santschi have gone 0-6 combined, with 6 K's.

2:50 PM PDT Wong grounded out to second for the second out of the inning.

2:51 PM PDT Hopkins sent one two the outfield, but it was caught for the third out of the inning. Thru 6 1/2, we're still tied at 4.

Bottom 6

2:55 PM PDT Drew George retired the first batter as he flipped a ground ball across the diamond for the first out. Scott Santschi caught a high fly ball off the bat of Brian Juhl, bringing up Cord Phelps with two down.

2:57 PM PDT Joey Wong threw out Cord Phelps on my vote for the best defensive play of the day so far. Joey had to go to his right for the ball, took it off a short hop near second base, and side-armed it to first to retire the side.

Thru 6, it's still 4-4.

Top 7

3:00 PM PDT Ogata, Canham, and Barney are due up for the Beavers. How about a homer or two?

3:02 PM PDT Gallager will come in for Stanford to face Canham.

3:07 PM PDT Canham grounds out to the left side, moving the runner to third. Darwin Barney struck out, Lennerton walked, and then Lissman walked, loading the bases.

3:10 PM PDT The Beavers send Wallace up to the plate to pinch hit, and he struck out swinging to end the inning, with the bases loaded.

Bottom 7

3:15 PM PDT It was an easy 1-2-3 inning for the Beavers, as Whitlow fouled out, Seawell was thrown out on a GREAT diving play by second baseman Joey Wong, and then Ratliff flied out to short to end the inning.

Top 8

3:19 PM PDT 8-9-1 for the Beavers.

3:21 PM PDT Drew George struck out to start the inning, then Wong singled to short.

3:23 PM PDT Hopkins walked, then Ogata flied out to center.

3:25 PM PDT Canham doubled into left center scoring two runs; Wong and Hopkins. The Beavers take a two run lead on the play, and the score is now 6-4.

3:29 PM PDT Darwin Barney flew out to end the inning.

After 8.5, it's Oregon State 6, Stanford 4

Bottom 8

3:31 PM PDT Patterson will take the hill once again for the Beavers. It appears Turpen will be his replacement when the time comes, as he's been up and down in the bullpen all day.

3:33 PM PDT Toby Gerhart doubled on a ball hit over the head of Lonnie Lechelt at third. Spence comes out to the mound, and he will indeed go to Daniel Turpen.

We are now un-live... if that's a word...

Taylor grounded out, Sorgi struck out, and Castro grounded out after Turpen came in, so it was all good for the Beavers in the bottom of the 8th.

Top 9

Lennerton singled up the middle, then Kahalehoe grounded out on a bunt to the catcher, advancing Lennerton to third. Lechelt fled out with the go ahead run at third, and ended the inning.

Bottom 9

Eddie Kunz came into pitch for Daniel Turpen at this point, and gave up a walk to start the inning. He popped up the next batter, Phelps, to center field, then walked the next batter as well. Molina singled up the middle, scoring Domaracki from second base, and narrowing the deficit to 1 run after OSU took a two run lead into the inning. Turpen walked yet another batter, then hit a batter, scoring another run. This tied the game at 5, then OSU turned a double play to escape the inning.

Top 10

Joey Wong walked, then Hopkins advanced him to second on a sacrifice. Ogata walked, Canham singled, and Joey Wong was thrown out at the plate by the right fielder, the player that would eventually win the game for the Cardinal. Darwin Barney flied out to right to end the inning.

Bottom 10

Anton Maxwell came in to pitch for Eddie Kunz. Sorgi lined out to the left fielder, then Castro grounded out to second. Gallagher walked, then Phelps hit into a fielder's choice that ended the inning.

Top 11

Jordan Lennerton led off with a home run to center field, giving the Beavers a one run lead, still with no outs. Koa Kahalehoe struck out, Wells singled, then Lonnie Lechelt reached on a error by the shortstop. Wong struck out, but a double steal was in effect, moving Lechelt to second, and Wells to third. Hopkins flied out to second base to leave runners on second and third. The Beavers got one, however, and took that lead into the bottom of the 11th.

Bottom 11

August singled down the right field line to start off the inning, then Moon struck out looking. Ratliff walked, advancing August to second. Greg Keim came into pitch for Maxwell at this point, and he got the second out of the inning when they Lonnie Lechelt got August out at third on a fielder's chice. Right fielder Michael Phelps was up next, and he hit a three run home run to left, a walk off homer ending the game.
