Oregon State put on a show at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field today, beating the Rebels 10-2 in Game 1, and 7-0 in Game 2.
Or more like, the Mitch Canham show.
Of the 17 runs the Beavers scored today, Mitch drove in eight of them. He had two grand slams, one in each game. In game two, he only stepped on the field twice, both times to hit as DH. In his first plate appearance, as a pinch hitter, he took the third pitch he saw from Marc Baca deep over the right field fence for his second grand slam of the day. His first came as part of the Beavers' seven run fourth inning in Game 1.
"The guys got on and gave me a lot of opportunities," Canham said after the game. "I got a couple good pitches to drive and got on them."
Those two blasts mark Canham's seventh and eighth home runs of the season, as well as his second and third grand slams. His sixth home run of the season came in Game 1 of the series, giving him a home run in each game this weekend.
Add all three games of the series together, and Canham drove in 11 of Oregon State's 20 runs this weekend.
With the win, the Beavers move to 31-8 overall, and 13-2 overall. The Beavers are 13-2 this season at home, and 65-11 at home since the 2005 season, the year they first made the College World Series.
The Beavers have four games on the road this week. Tuesday they'll play in Portland against the Pilots at 3:00, and then they'll travel down to California to play a three game series with the Cardinal. Stanford is 16-20 overall this season, and 2-10 in conference. The Beavers are hoping to extend Stanford's losing woes for one more week, but after losing every conference series this far, the Cardinal will be hungry and revenge minded.
More on the Cardinal as the week progresses.
Go Beavers!
