Oregon State went 3-1 in the Aggie Baseball Classic, only dropping their first game of the tournament, against Texas A&M, 2-5. Here's a look at all of the games:
Friday: vs. Texas A&M (L, 2-5)
Saturday: vs. New Mexico (W, 6-2)
Sunday: vs. St. Louis (W, 2-0)
Monday: vs. Texas A&M (W, 6-5)
On Friday, Texas A&M had put three runs across by the third inning, and the Beavers could never recover. Oregon State came within one of the Aggies in the top of the fifth when they scored a run to make the score 3-2, but the Aggies again pulled away in the bottom of the sixth, with two more runs.
On Saturday, Mike Stutues pitched into the seventh inning and only gave up one run to help the Beavers onto victory. Infielder Drew George went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI's and two runs scored. Drew was the only Oregon State batter with more than one hit. The Beavers scored two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to lead themselves to victory over New Mexico, 6-2.
Sunday, Daniel Turpen pitched 8 1/3 scoreless innings for the Beavers, helping them sneak by St. Louis, 2-0. The Beaver bats were relatively quiet again, with only 8 hits. Two of those came from Lissman, and two from Ogata.
Monday was the rematch of Oregon STate's first game of the tournament, Texas A&M. Both teams had a four running inning. Oregon State's came in the third, and Texas A&M's came in the top of the eight on a grand slam. They couldn't push another run across to tie the game, however, and Oregon State got the victory. The game was shortened to eight innings, due to the Beavers traveling plans.
The Beavers have their home opener on Thursday against Evansville at Goss Stadium.
Go Beavers!
