Evansville at Oregon State (Game 2)
The Beavers came out with a victory again in their second game of the season, with a 6-2 victory over Evansville. Evansville drew first blood in the top of the fourth inning when Kasey Wahl and Pat Tumilty hit back to back doubles to go ahead 1-0. Tumility tripled to center in the top of the sixth, and scored on a past ball thrown by Joe Patterson.
In the bottom of the sixth, Koa Kahalehoe and Darwin Barney were both walked and Jason Ogata was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Evansville then brought reliever Matt Brinkman into the game to face Mitch Canham. Mitch fell behind in the count 0-2, fouled off a pitch, and then clanked his second homer of the season off the right field foul pole.
"It was a really ugly swing, and thank God the wind kept it fair," Canham said after the game. "When it went off (the bat), I saw it stay fair and then it started to hook because I was out in front of it. I got a little worried, and when it hit, I thought it hit off the bottom of the fence and was going to end up being a single because everybody is going to tag and move up one base. But it stayed up and good things happen sometimes."
Evansville outplayed the Beavers in this game, but the Beavers were lucky to get the grand slam in the sixth inning to put them ahead.
Oregon State scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to add to their lead.
The Beavers moved to 16-3 with the victory.
