Although C.J. Giles's stat column doesn't look terribly intimidating with nine points and four fouls in 12 minutes, he helped guide the Beavers over Nothern Colorado, usual Big Sky bottom dwellers, on Wednesday night.
Giles sat out the entire first half for missing a team weightlifting session, and saw his first action 2 minutes into the second half. He picked up three fouls in about a minute, and found his way back to the bench. The Beavers were cruising along fine at that point, and didn't really need the help C.J. is capable of providing.
That was, until UNC deployed the dreaded 2-3 zone against the Beavers. Oregon State couldn't make a shot, and Northern Colorado turned a 10 point deficit into a 5 point lead thanks to a 17-2 run. That put the Beavers in a hole with just under seven minutes left.
C.J., who came back into the game with four fouls, played his greatest stretch of basketball in his young Oregon State career. He had five points in the stretch, two blocks (one of them monstrous), and finished the game with ten boards. With his help, the Beavers got the scoring opportunities they needed to cruise to a 65-56 win.

You'll see that C.J. takes up large portions of the rebounds and shots made categories, but also consumes a large chunk of Oregon State's fouls. C.J. needs to work on his body control.
GO BEAVERS!
