Men's Hoops Falls to Colorado State, Alaska in Tourney

The Men's Basketball team fell 69-56 to Colorado State in their opening game of the Top of the World Classic. This loss dropped them into the consolation bracket of the eight team tournament, which set up a matchup with the home-town Alaska Nanooks. This game took place last night, and with most people focused on the football game, the team fell again, this time by a score of 62-60. Alaska moved into to the consolation finals with the win, and the loss for Oregon State not only dropped them to 0-2 on the season, but it drops the Beavers into the 7th and 8th place game of the tournament. That game, which will be played against USC upstate, will tip off at 11:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, Portland State finds itself in the Championship game, where they will play Colorado State at 7:00 p.m. tonight.

In Game 1 of the tournament for the Beavers, Seth Tarver set a career high with 15 points, Lathen Wallace scored nine, and Marcel Jones eight. The Beavers shot 35% from the field in the game. Colorado State capitalized, converting 50% of their field goals and going on the beat the Beavers 69-56.

In Game 2 against Alaska, Marcel Jones went off for a game-high 23 points. He added eight rebounds and an assist. Seth Tarver added 13, but those two were the only Beavers in double digits as the Nanooks beat the Beavers 62-60.

Again, remember that Game 3 of the tournament tips off at 11:00 a.m. today.
