The Beavers took to the court last night for their first game this year against Portland in the Oregon Rain Invitational. Marcel Jones scored 25 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Oregon State to the win. Sasa Cuic also had a good game, adding 17 points for the Beavs.

Oregon State started brothers Josh Tarver, a redshirt freshman, and Seth Tarver, a true freshman, in the backcourt. It was the first time the Beavers started two freshman guards on opening night since 1996. The last time the Beavers had two brothers start was in 1997-98 when Corey and Sonny Benjamin played. Zach Tarver, the oldest brother, is a receiver on the football team. These aren't the only talented athletes in the family, their dad, John Tarver, was a fullback for the New England Patriots and the Philidelphia Eagles. The fourth brother, Shon Tarver, was a standout basketball player at UCLA, where he helped the Bruins to four NCAA tournament apearances from 1991-1994 And finally, sister Taryn Tarver was a standout track athlete for Oregon.
