First BCS Standings Released

FOX's NFL Football Crew just embarrassingly released the first BCS Poll of the season:

The Top 10:

  1. Ohio State
  2. USC
  3. Michigan
  4. Auburn
  5. West Virginia
  6. Florida
  7. Louisville
  8. Notre Dame
  9. Texas
  10. Cal
Fox's broadcast of the rankings, were, as predicted and discussed, terrible. The didn't break down any numbers, no insight on how the BCS works, and besides all that, it was brought to us in the NFL Post game show, by guys who -break down- NFL games.

Anyways, there you have it.

Texas seems low, but their only loss came against Ohio State who is at number one, and they haven't really done anything that impressive except for their win over Oklahoma. Their other wins come against the likes of Rice, Baylor, Sam Houston St., Iowa State, Baylor and North Texas.

USC seems incredibly high to me. If I was a computer, much like this thing they call the BCS, I would have USC ranked high too. But as a human who can actually break down and analyze the games, a team who barely wins games over Washington State, Washington, and Arizona State shouldn't be ranked #2 in the nation. They have a bye week to regroup before they play none other than the Oregon State Beavers at Reser Stadium.

I like Cal at #10. They could even be a little bit higher. At this point, they look like a better team than USC, but we won't know for sure, and the polls won't reflect that until the two teams play a month and three days from now.

But don't get used to this poll, folks. These games still need to be played, and will shake things up considerably:

USC vs. Notre Dame
USC vs. Cal
(and also USC vs. Oregon)
Ohio State vs. Michigan
West Virginia vs. Louisville

I just can't see a way for USC to run the table and stay at #2.

Your thoughts?
