Pac-10 Week in Review

Following suit and joining Corn Nation, here is my Pac-10 Weekly Report, for the week ending April 23rd.

The Weekly win/loss records are posted for each team. I'll get the Pac-10 standings up in the coming days, and we'll take a look at overall and conference records.

Corn Nation has the Big 12 Week in Review

Roll Bama Roll has the SEC Week in Review

and here is the Pac-10 Week in Review:

Pac-10 Rankings this Week:

USA Today/ ESPN Coaches' Poll: Oregon State, 9th; Arizona State, 10th; Arizona, 13th
Baseball America Top 25: Oregon State, 8th; Arizona State, 11th; Arizona, 14th; UCLA, 25th
Collegiate Baseball Top 25:  Arizona State, 6th; USC, 10th; Oregon State, 11th; Arizona, 12th;  UCLA, 18th

Arizona Wildcats

1-2

Friday: Arizona 3, Washington State 2

Saturday: Washington State 4, Arizona 3

Sunday: Washington State 5, Arizona 3

The Wildcats significantly helped out the Beavers by dropping two games to Washington State, a team that was sitting at the bottom of the Pac-10 prior to this series. With these two losses, Arizona takes themselves out of the drivers seat, and leaves it open for UCLA and Arizona State. The good news is Oregon State is still yet to play UCLA and Arizona State, so the Beavers control their own destiny as the try to climb up the Pac-10 rankings.

Arizona State Sun Devils

3-0

Friday: Arizona State 8, Louisiana- Lafayette  2

Saturday: Arizona State 11, Louisiana- Lafayette  8

Sunday: Arizona State 9, Louisiana- Lafayette  6

Like the Beavers, the Sun Devils had a non-conference series, so what they did this weekend doesn't really matter. The Devils have Cal, UCLA, Oregon State, and Arizona left on their plate, so they very much control their own destiny as well.

Cal Golden Bears

2-1

Friday: Cal 3, Stanford  0

Saturday: Stanford 4, Cal 3

Sunday: Cal 13, Stanford  5

Playing a team that was tied for last in the Pac-10 before entering the series, the Bears let one slip on Saturday, giving Stanford their second conference win. The Bears also still have some meat left on their schedule; they have Arizona State, UCLA, USC, and Washington.

Oregon State Beavers

3-0

Friday: Oregon State 3, UNLV 2

Sunday: Oregon State 10, UNLV 2

Sunday: Oregon State 7, UNLV 0

We all know that the Beavers won three this weekend, but we all also know that it didn't really matter. OSU really has to bear down these next few series' if they want a chance at a Pac-10 crown and a trip to Rosenblatt.

Stanford Cardinal

1-2

Friday: Cal 3, Stanford  0

Saturday: Stanford 4, Cal 3

Sunday: Cal 13, Stanford  5

The Cardinal were on the losing end of a three game series with the Bears, but were able to steal one game. Stanford has upcoming series' against Oregon State, Washington State, Washington, and USC.

UCLA Bruins

3-0

Friday: UCLA 8, Cal State Northridge 3

Saturday: UCLA 6, Cal State Northridge 5

Sunday: UCLA 12, Cal State Northridge 8

The Bruins were also in non-conference action, and swept Cal State Northridge. They've got Arizona coming up, which will be a good series that will decide who is #1 in the rankings. It will also move around some dust that OSU could possible start to emerge from.

USC Trojans

2-1

Friday: USC 8, Washington 5

Saturday: USC 5, Washington 2

Sunday: Washington 6, USC 0

The Trojans won the series with wins in Friday and Saturday's games, but they weren't able to pull the sweep in Game 3. The Trojans square off with Washington State this weekend.

Washington Huskies

2-1

Friday: USC 8, Washington 5

Saturday: USC 5, Washington 2

Sunday: Washington 6, USC 0

The Huskies have been battling injuries, but they were able to win one of three against the Trojans. They have a non-conference series this weekend.

Washington State Cougars

2-1

Friday: Arizona 3, Washington State 2

Saturday: Washington State 4, Arizona 3

Sunday: Washington State 5, Arizona 3

Washington State was able to pull an upset on Saturday, taking the Wildcats out of first place, and helping out UCLA, Oregon State, Arizona State, and the rest of the Pac-10 contenders as well. They head for Southern Cal this week to do battle with the Trojans.

Go Beavers!
