The Beavers are still perfect on the season after shutting the Aztecs out 5-0 yesterday behind a stellar outing from Andrew Moore. Dylan Davis drove in the first run of the game in the 6th inning, and after that the wheels fell off a little for the Aztecs. Before the 6th ended, Oregon State scored 2 runs on walks and 1 on an errant pickoff throw from the catcher. Those runs were plenty for Moore, who threw 8 and 1/3 shutout innings before handing it over to Tony Bryant to finish the game.
Heading into today the Beaver starter is still an unknown, but I'd bet either Tyler Painton or Zack Reser gets the start. Just about every Beaver reliever is available -- the longest an Oregon State reliever has gone in this series is Max Engelbrekt with 2 and 1/3 on Thursday. Hopefully, the bullpen depth can continue to shine Sunday, because it may be vital to completing the sweep.
San Diego St.'s starter is just about as unknown -- Cody Thompson, a 6'1" freshman righty is making the first appearance of his career today.
UPDATES: Junior JC transfer RHP Clay Bauer, a 6'6", 211 lb. Tony Bryant type, who came to the Beavers from Livermore, CA, by way of the College of San Mateo, will get his first start today for Oregon St.
It also appears that there will be no video today, according to San Diego St., for undisclosed reasons.
Today's lineup for the Beavers:
Max Gordon-CF
Tyler Smith-SS
Michael Conforto-DH
Dylan Davis-RF
Danny Hayes-1B
Jeff Hendrix-LF
Kavin Keyes-3B
Nate Esposito-C
Andy Peterson-2B
The Beavers are keeping Conforto's bat in play, but giving him a break from fielding. It gets heralded freshman Jeff Hendrix's glove and bat into the lineup. Jake Rodrigues also gets the day off after catching the first 3 games, but don't be surprised if he gets an opportunity as a pinch hitter should the need arise.
